It’s Movember everyone, and I’m growing a moustache…

You can donate, you can grow a moustache to show your support, or you can even just go on the website and read about Movember. There’s a load of ways to get involved, so take a look at http://mobro.co/frostdogg and then get involved.

Thanks for taking a moment to look into it.

Chance would be a fine thing…

…It’s a saying that a lot of people use. ‘Chance would be a fine thing’. It’s normally said when someone needs to get something done, either for their own sake or for the sake of a friend. Have you sorted your tax out? ‘Oh chance would be a fine thing…’. Did you go to the doctors? ‘Chance would be a fine thing…’ Did you ask that girl out? You see where this is going.

See the problem I have with that saying is the way it makes chance out to be something completely out of the persons control. Yes, there are ‘chance’ encounters which you can’t plan for, and yes, some people can give you a ‘chance’ to do something. But in most instances, it is down to you to MAKE YOUR OWN CHANCES. You can’t always wait around for someone to throw something in to your lap. You can’t always just wait for a chance encounter to happen. Other people might discount you, but whatever happens, you have to give YOURSELF a chance. Even when nobody else will. Create your own chances, give yourself a chance, and most importantly, if you make a chance, TAKE that chance. Or someone else might.

It’s good to be back Tumblr.

Is it better to wonder…

Or find out and be powerless?

.

A strange predicament, but one many of us find ourselves in. An opportunity may arise, but not necessarily at an opportune time, so what do you do?

Do you leave it be, and forever wonder ‘what if?’ I don’t think so. Some things can dwell on your mind, and the constant thought of what could have been has kept stronger men than myself awake for nights. On the other hand, what good is chasing an opportunity when you know full well you cant necessarily fulfill the obligations that may come with it? What would be the point of, say, going for a job interview in Birmingham, knowing you’re moving to Newcastle only a few weeks later? Yes, there would be the feeling of self worth that comes with employment, but it’ll feel a lot worse when you have to leave it behind after a week and go back to life without a job.

It doesn’t have to be a job either, it could be a bar you want to go to, a restaurant you want to try, even a girl you want to talk to, anything. You have to weigh up the benefits of passing on something against the benefits of taking a risk. In which situation do you stand to lose the most?

In my head, I’ll always take the risk. In reality though, I’m a massive fanny with a list of ‘what if’s’ as long as I am tall. I mean, I’m only 5”7, but thats still a pretty long list.

Well finishing University was…

…An anti-climax. Sure, it was nice to go out drinking guilt free and know I could sleep in until two in the afternoon, but I didn’t feel any sense of achievement. There was no fanfare. No tears of joy from lecturers. It was no different to any other hand in. Massive anti-climax. After three years of essays, presentations, short stories, biographies, autobiographies and even a play, it ended with ‘here’s your receipt, next’. I don’t know what I’d actually expected, but I thought it would be more than that.

So, where’s all this heading? The blog I mean, not my life (i’m not thinking THAT far ahead). I suppose its about expectations. If you let them get the better of you, then you’re going to get let down, more often than not. when you assume things, if they don’t come true then you just feel a bit gutted, whereas, if you keep an open mind and have a positive attitude come what may, then disappointment will elude you.

After all, isn’t it better to be pleasantly surprised than sadly, disappointed?

Why go out for burger when there’s steak at home?

Good question. I haven’t really got an answer for it. I mean, it all depends doesn’t it? How hungry are you, for a start.

.

Only joking, obviously we’re not really talking about steak, it’s a metaphor. But what for? I think it’s relevant to whoever’s being asked the question, and it’s going to be different for everyone, so I’ll try and be general. It’s all about what’s going to work out best in the long run. Do you want the quick fix, or would you prefer to play the long game and see how things pan out? Whatever it is you’re contemplating doing/buying/saying/stealing, is there a benefit to doing it as soon as possible, or, on the other hand, would that be rash and irresponsible? Is it going to be more beneficial if you wait it out, or will that mean you miss your chance? There’s a lot to think about, so take a second, weigh up the options, and make an informed decision.

 .

Because lets face it, steaks are nice, but you can get some fucking good burgers these days as well.
